Porto · Douro Valley · For hotel general managers and HR

First aid training for hotels in Porto and the Douro Valley.

When a guest collapses at breakfast, chokes at dinner or is pulled from the pool, the first person to help is whoever is on duty. We train your team at your hotel, in short sessions that fit around your shifts, in English or Portuguese.

08:14 · Terrace over the Douro

An ordinary morning.
Until it isn’t.

Mist over the vineyards, coffee on the tables, a waiter with a tray. Nothing about today is unusual.

08:15 · Table 6

A guest collapses.

Not responding. Not breathing normally. Around him, guests and staff, and one question: who knows what to do?

08:15 · Terrace112

Tiago knows.

Tiago calls 112 and starts compressions. He learned it in one morning, in the hotel.

08:17 · Corridor2 min

The defibrillator arrives.

The defibrillator arrives in two minutes. The receptionist knew where it was, and the team knows how to use it.

08:29 · The quinta gate

The first minutes
are yours.

In the Douro, help can take much longer to arrive than in the city. Until it arrives, it is your team that makes the difference.

How many of your team would know what to do?

Why hotels

Guests from abroad, of every age, in places built for relaxing: pools, spas, terraces and restaurants. And in the Douro, estates where help can take longer to arrive than in the city.

01
Pool
Drowning and near-drowning, slips on wet decks, and dives into shallow water.
02
Spa, sauna and steam room
Fainting in the heat, sudden drops in blood pressure, and guests with conditions your team knows nothing about.
03
Restaurant and breakfast
Choking at the table and severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis and how to use an adrenaline auto-injector.
04
Sudden illness
Chest pain, stroke, low blood sugar and cardiac arrest: recognise it, call 112, start CPR and use the defibrillator.
05
Falls
Stairs, terraces, bathrooms and wet floors, especially with older guests.
06
Kitchen
Cuts, burns from oil, steam and boiling water, and kitchen fires.

Each proposal is tailored to your hotel: the number of people, the shifts and the dates. Both options count towards the 40 hours of annual training required by article 131 of the Portuguese Labour Code, and support the employer duties set out in article 75 of Law 102/2009.

How it works

At your hotel
Our trainers come to you with manikins, AED trainers and first aid kits. Exercises take place where your team works: the restaurant, the pool, reception.
Shift-friendly
The course can be split into shorter sessions on different days, so each shift can take part without leaving the floor uncovered.
English or Portuguese
Delivered in English or Portuguese, for international teams. We confirm an English-speaking trainer before we set the dates.
Certified provider
+Advantage is a training provider certified by DGERT (C 6146). Every participant who completes the course receives a vocational training certificate issued by +Advantage.

Frequently asked questions

Can the training be delivered entirely in English?

Yes. We deliver the course in English or in Portuguese. Before setting the dates, we confirm a trainer who will teach the whole course in English.

Do you come to our hotel, including in the Douro Valley?

Yes. All our training for companies is in-house: we travel to your hotel in Porto, the Douro Valley or elsewhere in Portugal, and bring all the equipment.

How do you work around our shifts?

We split the course into shorter sessions on different days, agreed with you. Each session keeps the same group together, so the team trains as a team and service is not interrupted.

Does it count towards the mandatory training hours?

Yes. Portuguese law requires employers to provide at least 40 hours of training per worker each year (article 131 of the Labour Code). As a DGERT-certified training provider, our certificates count towards those hours.

Which legal obligations does it cover?

Article 75 of Law 102/2009 requires every workplace to have an internal structure for emergencies and first aid, evacuation and firefighting. Option B trains your team in all three in a single course; Option A covers first aid.

Which option should we choose?

For most hotels we recommend Option B: it trains the same people for a medical emergency, a fire and an evacuation, which is what a hotel emergency team needs. Option A suits teams that already have fire and evacuation training.
